Erno Rubik who invented Rubik's cube

The Rubik’s cube was invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erno Rubik. He wanted to make a model to help explain 3-dimensional geometrical structure for his students. So he made a 3x3x3 structure from wood and named it as “Magic Cube”. This is how Erno Rubik invented Rubik’s cube. Initially the cube was large and heavy as it was made of wood. He could not solve the magic cube immediately. It took about a month time for him to figure out how to solve it.

The first “magic cube” was sold by a Hungarian toy store in 1977.  In 1979, Erno Rubik gave license to international toy company “Ideal Toy” to market “magic cube” around the world. It was re-branded as “Rubik’s Cube” in 1980. In same year it won “German Game of the Year special Award for best puzzle. The Rubik’s Cube received the UK Toy of the Year award in the year 1980 and 1981. The puzzle toy was so popular that in the first 3 years of its release it sold 100 million units. At present, it is considered as world’s best selling puzzle toy.
