The Double Tetra Ghost Skewb started as another experiment with 3D-printed extension pieces. I wanted to see how far I could transform a regular Skewb by adding a completely new geometric structure around its mechanism.
I began with the idea of combining two tetrahedrons. By bringing the two shapes together and truncating their corners, I developed a new form that could be built around the Skewb mechanism. Using 3D-printed extension pieces allowed me to turn this geometric idea into a functional shape-mod puzzle.
Once the shape was complete, I wanted to make the solving experience even more challenging. I added a ghosted layer, which removes many of the familiar visual clues and makes recognizing the pieces and their orientation much harder.
The result is the Double Tetra Ghost Skewb—a 3D-printed extension mod that combines two tetrahedral forms, truncated geometry, a Skewb mechanism, and ghost-puzzle characteristics.
I particularly enjoy this design because the original Skewb becomes almost unrecognizable after the extensions are added. It is a good example of how 3D printing allows me to turn a simple geometric idea into a completely new puzzle.
