Diamond Square-1 Mirror

The Diamond Square 1 Mirror came from my desire to take the classic Square-1 mechanism and give it a completely new identity. I have always enjoyed experimenting with familiar puzzles and asking myself how far I can push their shape without losing the character of the original mechanism.

For this design, I developed a 3D-printed extension in a diamond shape and combined it with a mirror mechanism. The challenge was to adapt the extension around the Square-1 mechanism while keeping the puzzle functional and enjoyable to turn.

The result is the Diamond Square 1 Mirror, where the familiar Square-1 experience is transformed by an unusual diamond-shaped body. As the puzzle is scrambled, the changing geometry and mirrored surfaces make it difficult to recognize pieces by appearance alone.

For me, this puzzle is another example of how 3D printing opens up possibilities for puzzle design.
